The 25th of March was the first #Dantedì, as established by the Italian Council of Ministers, in order to celebrate Dante’s genius in Italy and all over the world. Our PI Maria Sofia Lannutti took part in the initiative of the Region of Tuscany and the Tuscan universities by making a video about the relationship between Dante and the ars cantionis. Dante’s description of the ars cantionis in the De vulgari eloquentia takes for granted the use, although not mandatory, of singing Italian vernacular poetry. Were Dante’s lyric poems sung? And what is the meaning of the renunciation of the amoroso canto displayed by Dante in the episode of the musician Casella at the beginning of the Purgatory? The video is available on Youtube: https://youtu.be/V0V1aMzNtkI.
